There are 45 employees, 21?of whom are senior researchers, 4 with PhD degree, 21 with Master degree, one recipient of State Council Special Allowance. It includes 7 research labs: Azolla Resource Laboratory, Grass Resource Evaluation and Breeding Laboratory, Development and Utilization of Ecological Resource Laboratory, Circular Agricultural Laboratory, Low-carbon Agricultural Laboratory, Habitat Monitoring and Ecological Restoration Laboratory, Ecological Planning and Science Technology Service Laboratory.
The institute is mainly engaged in research and technology promotion of grass species (pasture, green manure, azolla, etc) evaluation and breeding, low-carbon agriculture and climate change adaptation, green agriculture and production safety, circular agriculture and rural environmental protection, agriculture habitat monitoring and ecological restoration, ecological agriculture planning and ecological model. It has successively undertaken more than 100 national or ministerial projects such as projects from World Bank, Australian international agricultural research center project, National High-tech R&D Program of China (863 Program),National Program on Key Basic Research Project (973 Program), National Key Technologies R & D Program of China, National Science and Technology Infrastructure Platform, National Science and Technology Fundamental Resources Survey Program, National Modern Agricultural Industrial Technology System Program, National Public Welfare Industry (Agriculture) Special Program, Ministry of Agriculture Special Program, National Spark Program, National Agricultural Comprehensive Development, Agricultural Science and Technology Achievements Transformation Fund, Industrial Technology Achievements Transformation Fund Program.
The institute received over 40 awards of scientific and technological achievements, either of national, ministerial or provincial level. And 7 pasture varieties passed national certification, 6 provincial certification. It has obtained 63 national invention patents and 23 utility model patents since 2005.
The Institute currently has 7 national and provincial-level platforms, including National Azolla Resource Nursery, National field genebank for Azolla (Fuzhou), National Grass Variety Regional Experimental Station (Jianyang), and Fuzhou Scientific Observing and Experimental Station of Agro-Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, P. R. China, Fujian Engineering and Technology Research Center for Hilly Prataculture, Fujian Engineering and Technology Research Center for Circular Agriculture, Fujian Province Key Laboratory of Agro-Ecological Processes in Hilly Red Soil. It has Mass Spectrometer (MC-ICP), Total Organic Carbon Analyzer (TOC),Carbon Dioxide Analyzers, Skalar SAN ,Online Water Quality Analysis System, Plant Spectrum Analyzer, Soil three-phase measuring instrument, Gel Imaging System and other equipment. It also established Forage Seed Breeding Base(Jianyang City), Beef Cattle and Forage Demonstration Base(Nan'an City), Ecological Control and Conservation Base(Youxi County), Ecological Agriculture Sightseeing Park(LongHai City), and Comprehensive Research and Demonstration Base in Fujian Province.
